For seven weeks in the summer, The Chattahoochee Foundation partners with the City of Atlanta Office of Recreation to offer the tennis portion of  Camp Best Friends to hundreds of disadvantaged children. Camp Best Friends is a low to no cost summer camp that the City of Atlanta has run for 30 years in the metro Atlanta area. The camps run from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, offering participants three meals each day. Both traditional and specialty camps provide participants with the opportunity to complete hands-on projects, nurture positive peer interaction, and develop a variety of new skill sets.

Camp Best Friends touches the lives of over 2,500 Atlanta youth and teens, and by partnering with the City of Atlanta to offer the tennis component of this program, the Chattahoochee Foundation aims to draw children off the streets and onto the tennis court where they can learn and develop a multitude of powerful, positive life skills. The tennis program is offered various days each week at Washington Park Tennis Center. A lead tennis professional works with a team of Camp Best Friends staff to design, direct and implement tennis instruction for approximately 60-80 campers from the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

The Chattahoochee Foundation would like to offer our sincere thanks to the ALTA Foundation for financially supporting our Camp Best Friends tennis program in 2014, 2015, and again in 2016. Thank you ALTA Foundation!!!

“I only have one word to describe these awesome men and that is
“irreplaceable” because they exhibit such a nurturing and empowering
environment for not only my sons, but this behavior is consistent with
all of the other students that attend Washington park’s tennis camp.” -Angela L. Dixon Montrel
